Let's quickly define what does residence permit mean in this case? So if you want to stay in Finland longer than 90 days, then you basically need a residence permit and that is your permit to reside, and stay and live in Finland. But if you are planning to stay in Finland less than 90 days, then you usually need a visa. So these are the important things to keep in mind. And in this article we will of course talk about the residence permit because that's what you need in order to move and live in Finland for long time.

Work residence permit

The first way to get the resident permit is to work in Finland. So if you want to work here or run a business here, you need a residence permit for that. There are also number of different types of residence permits depending on the work you will be doing here. For example, there's one for Specialists researchers, working holiday internship, athlete, visiting consultant as much more just some examples to give you out here and there's also an income requirement. Basically, this means that your salary needs to be high enough to support your life here in Finland. To be honest this statement feels a bit weird. Maybe it's just because you they have to kind of make sure that you are earning enough money, but if you have a full-time job here in Finland, you should be able to support you at least yourself if you're just coming by yourself. And they also show this collective agreements for different working fields and sectors, which, for example, define the minimum salary for each job and depending on your residence permit, it may only give you the right to work for certain employer or/and fields, but most importantly you need to have already found a job here in Finland before you can apply for this residence permit. So this is very important. So you first need to find a job here and then you can apply for residence permit.

Family ties residence permit

The second way to get residence permit is to move to Finland with the family member and basically this is called residence permit based on Family Ties, and it's kind of interesting way the family member acts as a sponsor and also here's very interesting part; The Finnish law is much stricter when it comes down to defining who is considered a family member. So it has to be one of the following; espouse, a registered partner of a cohabiting partner, a guardian of a child under 18 years old or a child. So it has to be one of these and these are considered as a family member by The Finnish law,. For example, a person you're dating is not considered a family member. So if you're dating with a sexy Finnish guy or girl, you still still need to improve your relationship a little bit further in order to get to this level of residence permit stuff. And again this requirement. So you basically the money it has to be their work, assets, pensions or private enterprise so you can prove that you can actually support yourself here in Finland, and there's also known limitations to work. So if you get a residence permit based on Family Ties, there is no restrictions on where you can work or how much you can work because based on what type of residence permit you have. They can either limit or not limit. You are working. For example, how much you can work or in which we all do work and so on, but this residence permit doesn't restrict at all.

Study residence permit

The third way to Get residence permit is to study in Finland. And if you ask me, this is probably the most useful and most well, I wouldn't say if it's the easiest but at least one of the easier ways to get a residence permit for Finland, and of course this means that you need to have been accepted to a finish school, for example, university of applied sciences or the Vocational School, and there's three conditions your study's lead to a vocation or degree. It's about exchange studies or it supplementary training or special training connected to your degree. So it has to be either one of these three. If your study is last longer than 90 days, then you need the residence permit, but if it's less than you do, and if you're a PhD guy or girl, then you need a residence permit for research. So it's a special case and there's also a money requirement and according to maker you need at least five hundred 60 euro per month to support yourself during your studies. And if you're studying let's say 1 year exchange studies, you will need six thousand seven hundred twenty euros for the year and you need to prove that you have this money for the whole year. Of course, if you come out sort of European union or european economic area you are also subject to the tuition fees. So you need to also make sure that you can also pay the tuition fees, but the good news is that there's a lot of scholarships and grants for example, if you come outside of Europe and you have to apply to a university,  the university usually hands out a good number of scholarships, which you can use to pay the tuition fees and you can apply those while also making the application to the school's themselves. So you want to check that side with this type of residence permit. You have limited working. You can work. Let's say how much you can work, twenty five hours a week during the semester and during the holiday season. There's no limitations.

Job hunting residence permit

If you want to work like part time job alongside your studies, it's definitely possible and also a special note here after you get the degree here and you graduate, you can also apply for a special type of residence permit for job hunting after graduation. That's I think it's one year. So once you get out of the school, you can apply for this special type of residence permit.

Descendant of a Finnish citizen

The next way to get residence permit are immigration. And here's we have some very interesting stuff here. Let's check this out. So it's usually either you have finished roots or close connection to find out in some way. Okay, that's a bit ambiguous. But what is very interesting that you don't need to prove that you have enough money to support your living in Finland. That's quite interesting or anything else. If you can prove your connection to Finland somehow, that's enough and that's all you basically need for. Usually. It's out of this three. You are a former Finnish citizen and you lost your citizenship somehow, and then you can just use this clause to get again a new residence permit.

The next one is very interesting. You are a descendant of a Finnish citizen by birth. A basically what this means is if your parent or grandparent was finished citizens, should be Finnish citizen by birth. That's basically all you need to do. So if you can prove that your grandparent was finished citizen by birth, for example, with birth certificate and you can also show your relation that he or she is actually your grandparent. That's all you need to do and you can get a residence permit based on that ground.

From former Soviet Union

The next one is very interesting. Let me just read it directly. You can get the residence permit if you are from the area of the former Soviet Union, and you were involved during World War Two in 1933 and 1944, and you were resettled in Finland, and then return to the Soviet Union or you served in the Finnish army during World War Two in 1939 to 1945. Okay, that's kind of like special stuff. Though I'm not sure if it's going to be applied, a political, applicable for you guys, but some interesting facts that okay, but the point is if you have finished roots grandparents, you can use that fact to get residence permit.

Dating relationship

Is it coming to Finland based on other grounds? So if anyone any of the previous ones don't apply you you can use this to try to get residence permit for Finland and for example, you have established dating relationship with the Finnish citizen or someone who has a residence permit in Finland, and your intention is to get married, so you can put this. Could be actually one rule as I said before that dating a Finnish person is not enough. To show as a family member, if you relationship is very established, you're planning to get married some point, you can try this one but the - points for this residence permit is that this is working really. You get access only to certain kinds of jobs, and you must take care of your own means of support, so you have to prove again that you have enough money.

Victim of human trafficking

The next one is a little bit nasty, one residence permit for a victim of human trafficking of global. Okay. This is a little bit. I hope no one has to apply for this kind of type of Resident persons permit. If someone is forced into sex work, or have we worked without proper days or pay off that could be human trafficking, and that's followed to few requirements for this one. You need to stay in Finland because of the pre-trial investigation or Court proceedings related to human trafficking, you cooperate with the authorities to help them catch the persons who are suspected of human trafficking and you are no longer in contact with the person's suspected to human trafficking. Okay. So we're you kind of sad or sorry stuff. I hope no one has has to go through this kind of awesome not awesome annoying b*******.

Family members

The good news is if you have a residence permit for Finland, you are family members can apply residence permit for Finland based on the Family Ties. So remember that's all so let's say if you have a residence permit you have kids, spouse, family living. Let's say outside of Europe, they can apply for a residence permit in Finland because they can apply based on the Family Ties because you have a residence permit in Finland and also

European Union residents

Very good news for people who are inside of the European Union, you don't need residence permit for anything. So if you want to come to Finland, you can come here freely and if you want to live here in Finland so longer than 90 days, all you need to do is to register your residence. I think it's at the local police station, and that's it. But that's also few things. You also need to prove one of the following things in order to do that. You must have a job. You are operating a company. You have a study place, longtime family ties or just enough money. So if you can prove one of these and you're a citizen of EU, you can just move here. Register your residence and that's it. No residence permits or anything else required and I think. That's one of the benefits from for this you stuff. You can use that as well. So if you want to move to Finland, knowing the Finnish language is also very important.

I'll see you in the next article. Good Luck.
